Toronto’s Breathe Feel Love’s production is a fun, fast-paced raunchy rock ’n’ roll romp filled with tragedy, humour and a kick-ass band. Seth Drabinsky seems born for the role of Hedwig as he completely and believably transforms himself into the transgendered, trash-talking song-stylist.

The task of carrying the show falls to Seth Drabinsky as Hedwig, and he's certainly up to it, making Hedwig's collapse believable - and also credibly delivering the music with a strong belter's voice. L.A. Lopes as Yitzhak, Hedwig's lover, also gets to belt out a couple of numbers herself, and does them proud.

The Winnipeg Review | July 18, 2011

Seth Drabinsky, who plays Hedwig, and  L.A. Lopes,  who plays Yitzhak, are incredible  singers with immense acting talent. This, by far, is the best the Fringe has to offer. Their band, consisting of Jeremy Knowles on drums, Christian Bonner on guitar, Sarah Burton on keyboard and guitar, and bassist Cindy Doire do a remarkable job.

Reviews for Ghost Light Theatre’s 2009 production starring Seth Drabinsky and L.A. Lopes

Toronto Stage | Oct. 27, 2009

Hedwig and the Angry Inch is an offbeat emotional comedy that’s unusually satisfying, darkly funny, smartly directed and splendidly performed. This is a musical toast that is the rarest of indie plays with its risky and exciting content. Playgoers are treated to freshness, humour and honesty from beginning to end. Seth Drabinsky’s performance without exaggerating is stunning as he seizes your sensations and pulls you right into a hardcore play with a soft light hearted centre. A blistering rock score serves as the foundation to this intricate look at the ambiguities surrounding gender bending and the emotional turmoil that can ensue. The compositions straddle between sentimental and angst ridden lyrics making for a perfect blend to convey a story of cognizance.

Mondo Magazine | Oct. 27, 2009

Beautifully performed by Seth Drabinsky as Hedwig with strong supporting work by L.A. Lopes as Yitzhak, this show rides the tides of the highs and lows Hedwig experiences with grace and fierce, angst-ridden energy.

Now Magazine | Oct. 28, 2009

Drabinsky’s energy and singing during full-on Bowie- and Iggy-inspired rock numbers is stadium-sized.

Plank Magazine | Nov. 3, 2009

The vast majority of the show rests on Drabinsky’s shoulders, and thankfully he is more than enough of a performer to hold it up. A classically trained singer, Drabinsky delivers the songs with power. Character wise, Drabinsky walks a careful line between ‘larger than life drag queen’ and ‘tragic heroine’.

Moony on Theatre Blog | Nov. 6, 2009

Though there is more than one person on stage, Hedwig and the Angry Inch is for all intents and purposes a one-person show, relying completely on Seth Drabinsky as Hedwig to carry the whole performance.  Thankfully, he doesn’t disappoint; his delivery of the extremely difficult songs are delivered with skill, passion, pain, rage and a great deal of sensitivity without ever descending into angst.
